members of the General Council of the University of Edinburgh
from Dr Alan Brown, the Convener of the Business Committee of
the General Council.
We hope that you will enjoy your visit to this website and that
it will encourage you to take an active role in the work of the
General Council.

The General Council
The General Council consists of the graduates, academic staff and members of the supreme governing body of the University, the University Court.
The General Council’s elected Business Committee plays an advisory role to the University Court. It has the statutory right to comment on matters which affect the well-being and prosperity of the University.

Statutory
Half-Yearly Meetings
The General Council holds its Statutory Meetings annually in February and June.
All February Meetings are held in Old College, University of
Edinburgh. June Meetings are held in other venues on the
University's Estates, and every fourth Meeting is an Away Meeting
held at a venue outside Edinburgh. Away Meetings have been held in
London, Paris, Washington DC and Hong Kong.
The next Statutory Meeting will be held
on
Saturday 16
June 2012 in the Humboldt University, Berlin.

General Council Elections
At its elections in February 2012 five new Business Committee
members were elected. For further information

There will be elections for one Assessor to Court and five members of the Business Committee in February 2013.

The General Council Prince Philip Fund
As an appropriate and perpetual recognition of
his long and distinguished service as Chancellor of the University,
the General Council is honoured to be able to announce that His
Royal Highness has given his sanction to the launch of a fund in his
name. This fund will provide bursaries and access scholarships for
students who would otherwise be unable to afford to go to
