The Governing body of the University of Edinburgh, the University Court, currently has 22 members. Three positions on the University Court are reserved for General Council members who are currently neither staff nor students in the University.
At its statutory half-yearly meeting in February 2018 the General Council approved new arrangements for filling these posts, not by election as previously, but by an open and transparent process of advertisement and selection jointly managed by a selection panel drawn from representatives from the General Council and from Court.

This video features two excellent presentations. Gavin McLachlan's (Chief Information Officer and Librarian to the University) commentary on the disruptive effect of technology, digital learning and the implications for the University, followed by Jeremy Upton, Director of the Library and University Collections, who gave a history of the library within the University and a vision for its future. Unfortunately such was the interest and engagement the event overran and the preset recording of Jeremy's presentation was curtailed.
Live stream of the General Council Half Yearly Event will be taking place on the 1st of February 2020 at 10.30am.
