Vote in the February 2018 Election

It is now time to elect five new members of the General Council Business Committee.

We have seven outstanding candidates from a variety of backgrounds and industry sectors, all of whom are committed to the University of Edinburgh and keen to play a greater role in its future governance. You can find out more about the candidates by visiting www.general-council.ed.ac.uk/elections and selecting the ‘Election Status’ tab.

Why vote?

Since 1858 the General Council of the University of Edinburgh has enabled graduates to provide guidance to the University’s governing body.

In 2017 this guidance is as valuable as ever as the University adapts to the changes and challenges of global higher education.

Ensure that the right people are representing you by voting in the General Council Business Committee elections.

How can I vote?

You can vote online until 1700 GMT on Tuesday 20 February 2018 using the alumni portal at www.myed.ed.ac.uk

The closing date for registering to vote online is 1700 GMT on Monday 19 February.

What does it mean to members?

Dr Bruce Ritson, Convener of the Academic Standing Committee says that election to the Business Committee has given him a chance to “appreciate the activities and scale of this global university”.

Mr Gordon Cairns, Convener of the Constitutional Standing Committee, is serving a second term and considers the role “an honour and a privilege”.

Professor Stuart Macpherson is keen to use his background to help “sustain and enhance the University’s world class status”.
