The General Council of the University of Edinburgh is the body of graduates, academic staff and members of the University Court, established by the Universities (Scotland) Act in 1858, with a statutory right to comment on matters affecting the well-being and prosperity of the University. It fulfils its responsibilities through the work of an elected Business Committee, supported by an administrative office hosted within the University’s Development & Alumni Office (D&A).
The General Council Office holds personal information about elected members of the Business Committee for the purposes of providing them with the information and opportunities consistent with fulfilling their role.
Otherwise General Council members are identified from the D&A database for the purpose of providing information about General Council Statutory Meetings, elections and events. General Council members receive information electronically unless they have requested that Billet be sent in printed form.
The General Council Office shares the commitment of the University and D&A to preserving the privacy of your data. D&A have the appropriate confidentiality agreement in place with a contracted third party to enable printed copies of Billet.
